A Visit to Kaluga Queen’s Sustainable Caviar Farm
Our team had the privilege of visiting Kaluga Queen, one of the world’s most prestigious caviar producers. Located at Qiandao Lake, Kaluga Queen farms sturgeons in open-water environments, ensuring the highest standards of sustainability and quality.
Our journey began at the farm, where we experienced firsthand the natural and ethical practices used in raising sturgeons. Guests were given a rare opportunity to catch sturgeons themselves, deepening appreciation for the aquaculture process. We also sampled a wide variety of caviar — including Oscietra, Hybrid, Kaluga, and Beluga. Each offering its unique flavour profile.
The second day focused on the caviar production process. We toured the state-of-the-art facility, where strict hygiene and handling protocols ensure every tin of caviar meets the highest quality standards. Beyond caviar, we discovered how other parts of the sturgeon are thoughtfully repurposed into luxury products such as shoe leather, phone cases, and accessories — demonstrating a zero-waste, sustainable approach.
We wrapped up our visit at Kaluga Queen’s first flagship store, where caviar was reimagined into unexpected delights like caviar ice cream and cheesecake — a fusion of indulgence and innovation that reflects the brand’s modern culinary vision.
